International Iroquois Ale Flat Top Can

International Iroquois Ale Can

The International Iroquois Ale Flat Top Can represents a significant era in Western New York brewing history, originating from the Buffalo, New York facility under International Breweries, Inc. (IBI). Following the corporate consolidation that brought the historic Iroquois Beverage Corporation into the IBI portfolio, the brewery rolled out a coordinated corporate look across its regional brands while preserving the identity of the Buffalo label.

Graphic Identity and Design

Collectors frequently identify cans from this era by the distinct "TV screen" framing layout adopted across the International Breweries lineup. Following mid-century breweriana color-coding traditions, the ale packaging was rendered with a green palette to distinguish it from the red cans used for the flagship lager. The design integrated classic Iroquois branding elements alongside corporate endorsements highlighting International's master brewers.

Manufacturing and Variations

During its production run, the Buffalo plant sourced can stock from major packaging manufacturers such as the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company. Because multiple can makers and print runs were utilized, variations exist with differences in can company logos, seam styles, and legal text placements. While International Breweries distributed other acquisitions across multiple markets, the Iroquois brand remained closely tied to its home market in Buffalo, making this can a key focal point for regional breweriana collections.
