Iroquois Ale 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Buffalo's Iroquois Ale Zip Top

Produced by International Breweries, Inc. out of Buffalo, New York, this 12-ounce Iroquois Ale can represents a significant chapter in regional brewing history. International Breweries operated a multi-plant brewing network, maintaining the historic Pratt Street facility in Buffalo as the central production hub for the iconic Iroquois brand line.

Graphic Design and Brand Identity

During this era, International standardized packaging across its portfolio while preserving the regional heritage of its flagship labels. The Iroquois Ale design incorporated the traditional green color scheme designated for ale offerings, distinguishing it from the red color schemes used on standard lager releases. The graphics paired classic Native American arrowhead iconography with modern geometric framing, widely recognized in breweriana circles as the mid-century "TV screen" aesthetic.

Production Variations and Legacy

Known variations exist across production runs, primarily originating from different can manufacturers such as the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company. These manufacturing sources created slight shifts in side seam construction, color saturation, and mandatory text placements along the side panels.

While the Buffalo facility packaged several brands for distribution across broader markets, Iroquois remained a point of local pride in Western New York. As corporate ownership evolved over time, cans bearing the International Breweries designation became celebrated centerpieces for collectors focusing on Upstate New York brewing heritage.
