Lanser's A-1 16 Oz Pint Can

The J.F. Lanser's A-1 Beer 16-ounce pint can represents an important chapter in Southwestern brewing history, produced by the Arizona Brewing Company out of Phoenix, Arizona.

The label carries a distinctive backstory rooted in brewery leadership and rebranding efforts. Originally renowned throughout the region for its flagship A-1 Pilsner, Arizona Brewing adjusted the brand name to Lancers following trademark challenges from Anheuser-Busch over eagle iconography. Following the passing of longtime company president and principal shareholder Joseph F. Lanser, the brewery announced in 1964 that the brand would be renamed J.F. Lanser's Beer as an homage to his pivotal role in expanding the company from a local plant into a regional powerhouse.

This one-pint container was manufactured with American Can Company's "Keglined" mark and prominently displayed brewery messaging such as "Brewed With Crystal Pure Water" alongside the familiar A-1 emblem. It serves as an artifact from the final chapter of the brewery's independent ownership before Arizona Brewing was sold to the Carling Brewing Company.

Among breweriana collectors, this 16-ounce can is sought after for its connection to Arizona's brewing heritage and its short-lived tribute branding. Variations exist featuring subtle differences in mandatory text and canning marks.
