James Bond's 007 Malt Liquor 12 Oz Tab Top Can

James Bond 007 Special Blend Can

During the height of 1960s espionage pop-culture craze, The National Brewing Company introduced James Bond's 007 Special Blend, an unusual hybrid beverage marketed as a blend of malt liquor and premium beer. Brewed and packaged across several company facilities, including its Western Division in Phoenix, Arizona, the product sought to capitalize on the massive international fame of Ian Fleming's fictional British secret agent.

Cans in this series featured photographic portraits of glamorous women posed against iconic London landmarks and traditional British institutions. This specific variation depicts a model looking upward in front of a sentry box, accompanied on the right by a Grenadier Guard in full ceremonial uniform and bearskin cap. The label prominently displays the stylized "007" logo with the silhouette of a handgun integrated into the numeral seven, flanked by the header "James Bonds" and "SPECIAL BLEND" across the center. At the lower rim, the can carries the distinctive descriptor reading "A MALT LIQUOR blended with PREMIUM BEER."

Because the brand was released without official authorization or licensing from the James Bond franchise copyright holders, National Brewing faced immediate legal complications and was forced to withdraw the product shortly after its debut. The line's abrupt cancellation and brief market lifespan turned surviving examples into celebrated mid-century breweriana collectibles. Known variations within the series feature differing brewery location listings, alternative London backdrops, and subtle differences in the descriptive phrasing applied to the blend.
