Jackson Brewing Jax 12 Oz Can

The Jax Beer 12 oz can is a classic piece of Southern breweriana produced by the historic Jackson Brewing Company of New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1890 by Lawrence Fabacher, the brewery operated out of its landmark French Quarter facility and eventually grew to become the largest regional brewery in the Southern United States. Jackson Brewing was also one of only two breweries in New Orleans to successfully survive Prohibition.

This can reflects a significant chapter in regional brewing history. For years, Jackson Brewing shared the Jax trademark with the Jacksonville Brewing Company of Florida under a 1935 legal agreement that divided Southern distribution territories. In 1954, Jackson Brewing secured full rights to the brand, paving the way for expanded canning runs and high-profile marketing campaigns across Louisiana, Texas, and neighboring states.

During its peak mid-century distribution, Jax was celebrated for its engaging regional advertising campaigns, including popular radio spots and memorable marketing slogans. The can's livery highlights the signature bold Jax block lettering and heraldic iconography associated with the brewery.

Among breweriana collectors, several variations of the 12 oz Jax can are known to exist across different canning runs, exhibiting minor differences in side-panel mandatory text, regional tax stamping, and can manufacturer logos. The French Quarter plant ultimately closed in 1974, making this can a recognizable artifact of New Orleans' brewing heritage.
