Keg Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Maier Keg Beer Tab Top Can

The Keg Beer 12 oz tab top can was produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California. Operating from its long-running facility on Commercial Street in downtown Los Angeles, Maier stood as one of Southern California's central regional breweries, built on high-volume distribution and value-priced offerings designed to compete directly against national labels.

Brand and Packaging Design

Keg Beer served as an economy-focused label within Maier's diverse portfolio of proprietary and contract-canned beverages. The can's graphics utilized bold typography alongside barrel and keg motifs to evoke traditional tavern draft styling for off-premise retail sales. Marketed heavily through supermarket chains and discount liquor stores across California and neighboring Western markets, the can formed part of Maier's strategy under industrialist Paul Kalmanovitz to maximize production volume with competitive price points.

Manufacturing and Collector Notes

The can was produced with a straight-steel body fabricated in partnership with prominent mid-century container manufacturers such as the American Can Company and National Can Company. Breweriana collectors track variations across production runs, noting differences such as factory seam construction types, canning plant identification marks, and adjustments to mandatory side-panel legal statements. Today, the Keg Beer tab top remains a representative artifact of Los Angeles' post-war industrial brewing landscape.
