Keg Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Maier's Keg Beer Tab Top

Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California, was one of the West Coast's most prolific operations during the mid-twentieth century. Under the ownership of industrialist Paul Kalmanovitz, Maier established a massive presence throughout California and neighboring regions by producing an expansive portfolio of house labels, value-priced lines, and contract supermarket brands.

Among these offerings was Keg Beer, packaged with classic mid-century graphics prominently displaying a traditional wooden barrel alongside the slogan "Natural Flavor". While the brand first appeared in earlier can formats, it successfully transitioned into the tab top era as the beverage canning industry modernized. The sharp contrast of the red, white, and metallic motif made it an eye-catching fixture on grocery and liquor store shelves across Southern California.

For breweriana historians and collectors, the Keg Beer label represents an important period in Los Angeles brewing history. Known variations of this can exist across different canning runs, exhibiting subtle shifts in mandatory brewery text, metallic background finishes, and canning manufacturer markings. Produced at Maier’s historic downtown brewing facility along North Main Street, this can stands as an enduring artifact of the brewery's high-volume packaging era.
