Keglet Beer Flat Top Can

Ruppert's Keglet Beer Flat Top

The Keglet Beer flat top can produced by Jacob Ruppert of New York, New York, holds a notable place in mid-century breweriana history. Originally developed by Philadelphia's Esslinger Brewing Company—which adopted the name following trademark disputes regarding its earlier "Goblet Beer" brand—the Keglet label was acquired by the Jacob Ruppert Brewery in the 1960s alongside other regional brands. Following the transaction, packaging and canning operations shifted to Ruppert’s historic facility located along Third Avenue in Manhattan's Yorkville neighborhood.

Manufactured toward the end of Jacob Ruppert's nearly century-long brewing presence in New York City, the can is styled with a rustic, barrel-themed aesthetic that reinforces the keg-inspired moniker. The graphic layout features the prominent slogan, "Flavor Of Draught Beer," centered to highlight the draught-style character associated with the packaging.

For collectors, Jacob Ruppert's issuance of Keglet is particularly significant because the label had historically been tied to the Pennsylvania market. Variations exist across production runs, showing differences in enamel versus metallic finishes as well as slight revisions in the mandatory brewery text. As one of the final labels canned at Ruppert's Manhattan plant before the company closed its doors, the can remains a fascinating crossover piece connecting New York and Philadelphia brewing heritage.
