Kings Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Chicago's Kings Beer Tab Top

Kings Beer represents an intriguing chapter in the mid-century brewing heritage of Chicago, Illinois. Marketed under the name of Kings Brewing Company, the label was produced at the historic brewing facility located at 3901 South Emerald Avenue on Chicago's South Side. This facility, originally established as the Manhattan Brewing Company and later operating as the Canadian Ace Brewing Company, made extensive use of alternate corporate identities to package a wide range of proprietary and regional labels for distribution across the Midwest.

The graphics on the can embody classic mid-century commercial design. Featuring prominent typography paired with regal emblems—often highlighting castle battlements or royal insignia—the visual presentation was engineered to create a distinguished shelf presence across retail stores and taverns. Cans bearing the Kings imprint from this era were primarily manufactured by prominent container makers of the period, such as the Continental Can Company, which regularly supplied Chicago's packaging operations.

For breweriana collectors, items originating from Chicago's postwar brewing network hold significant historical interest. Canadian Ace and its associated trade names were prolific competitors during an era when local urban breweries fought to maintain market share against expanding national shipping giants. The Kings Beer tab top serves as an authentic artifact from this pivotal period in American packaging history. Known variations of the can exist within collections, exhibiting subtle differences in mandatory brewery statements, typography layout, and canning plant identification markings.
