Kol Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can

Kol Premium Beer of Tampa

The Kol Premium Quality Beer flat top can represents a notable chapter in Florida's regional brewing history. Marketed under the Kol Brewing Company name in Tampa, Florida, the brand was produced as a trade name under International Breweries, Inc., which operated the historic facility situated at Zack and Pierce Streets.

Background and Brewery History

During the era of mid-century brewing consolidation, multi-plant brewing operations frequently marketed secondary and regional labels under distinct trade names. In Tampa, the Kol Brewing Company banner was utilized to distribute an "Extra Light – Extra Dry" beer to competitive regional markets. Tampa's established industrial infrastructure and active brewing scene made it a prime location for canning and regional distribution.

Can Design and Features

The can features bold, stylized "Kol" lettering prominently centered above the "Premium Quality Beer" designation. Text highlighting the "Extra Light – Extra Dry" slogan is integrated alongside mandatory markings identifying Tampa, Florida. Produced in standard 12-ounce capacity, these steel containers were fabricated by major container manufacturers of the period, including the Continental Can Company.

Collector Significance

Among breweriana collectors, Tampa-labeled Kol cans are recognized for their historical ties to Florida's commercial brewing landscape. While Kol-branded cans were packaged across other American brewing hubs as well, examples bearing the Tampa brewery mandatory line remain sought-after pieces for those specializing in Florida and Southern canning history. Variations exist across different production runs, featuring subtle differences in manufacturer marks and text layouts.
