Krueger Bock Flat Top Can

The Krueger Bock Flat Top Can

Produced by the G. Krueger Brewing Company of Newark, New Jersey, the Krueger Bock flat top represents a celebrated piece of breweriana from the pioneering brewery that first brought canned beer to the commercial market.

Historical Context and Graphic Design

While Krueger gained renown for introducing the flat top beer can in collaboration with the American Can Company, seasonal releases like bock beer were packaged in far lower quantities than everyday lagers and ales. Traditionally packaged for limited spring distribution, bock beer required short, focused canning runs, making surviving examples considerably less common than standard brewery offerings.

The label artwork features traditional bock iconography, highlighted by a bold ram head motif paired with Krueger's signature corporate branding and the well-known "K-Man" mascot. The composition reflects the colorful lithographic printing standards characteristic of mid-century steel cans.

Known Variations

Collectors recognize several variations of the Krueger Bock label across different manufacturing runs. These variations exhibit subtle differences in regulatory text, mandatory labeling, background color tones, and graphic alignment. Due to the seasonal nature of the product and the historic pedigree of the G. Krueger Brewing Company, this flat top remains a popular focus among vintage breweriana enthusiasts.
