Krueger Cream Ale Flat Top Can

Krueger Cream Ale Flat Top

The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company occupies a foundational place in breweriana history as the pioneer responsible for introducing commercially canned beer to the American public in 1935. While the brand built its reputation over decades of brewing at its flagship operation in Newark, New Jersey, production eventually relocated when the company was sold in 1961. Following the closure of the Newark plant, brewing operations and packaging for the brand's roster moved to the Narragansett Brewing Company facility in Cranston, Rhode Island, where production continued under the G. Krueger name.

This 12-ounce flat top can represents that significant transitional era, bearing the Cranston, Rhode Island mandatory brewery statement. The container maintains the classic Krueger Cream Ale graphic identity and distinctive typography that had long defined the label, bridging the company's early packaging heritage with New England brewing production.

For collectors of East Coast breweriana and historic beer brands, Cranston-era Krueger cans are notable artifacts marking the movement of a pioneering nameplate. Several variations are known to exist among surviving examples, displaying subtle differences in metallic sheen, factory canning codes, and text arrangements.
