Krueger Cream Ale Quart

Krueger Cream Ale Quart

The Krueger Cream Ale Quart is a celebrated piece of breweriana produced by the G. Krueger Brewing Company of Newark, New Jersey. Krueger holds a landmark place in commercial brewing history as the pioneer of canned beer, having partnered with the American Can Company in the 1930s to market the world's very first canned beer test releases. Following the success of standard sizes, Krueger expanded its packaging lineup into large-format quart cans.

Manufactured on Continental Can Company Cap-Sealed shells, the quart container allowed the brewery to package Cream Ale in a volume equivalent to standard quart bottles. The can's face prominently displays the Krueger trade name and the Cream Ale designation. Graphic elements on the design incorporate traditional Krueger motifs, including bold block lettering and shield elements, with some releases displaying the well-known "K-Man" waiter figure.

Collectors document known variations of the Krueger Cream Ale quart. These variations include differences in background finishes—such as metallic silver or colored fields—as well as text alterations on the side and mandatory panels, including versions with Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements and differing distributor or copyright lines.

As a large-format release from the company that launched the beer can industry, the Krueger Cream Ale quart remains an essential fixture in American brewery advertising history.
