Krueger Finest Beer Flat Top Can

Krueger Finest Flat Top Beer Can

The Krueger Finest Beer flat top container represents a monumental milestone in American brewing and packaging history. Originating from the G. Krueger Brewing Company based in Newark, New Jersey, the Krueger brand was at the forefront of the canning revolution in the 1930s.

Following the repeal of Prohibition, the American Can Company developed a specialized internal lining capable of withstanding carbonation pressure without altering the beer's quality. Seeking a partner to trial the viability of canned beer, the manufacturer approached G. Krueger, agreeing to install canning machinery at no initial risk to the brewery. After successful sample testing in late 1933, Krueger officially made history on January 24, 1935, by distributing Krueger's Finest Beer and Krueger's Cream Ale for commercial sale in Richmond, Virginia. The market was chosen deliberately to test customer response outside Krueger's core East Coast territory. The public embraced the format, transforming beverage packaging throughout the industry.

This specific 12-ounce release carries the L483 manufacturer catalog designation along with an optional tax statement. Krueger packaging from this era showcases the company's classic iconography and historic Newark mandatory information. Variations across production runs are well documented among collectors, reflecting slight evolutions in factory lithography, mandatory tax language, and layout adjustments over time.
