Lassen Bavarian Beer Flat Top Can

Grace Bros. Lassen Bavarian Can

The Lassen Bavarian Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the Grace Bros. Brewing Company of Santa Rosa, California. Named in reference to Northern California's Mount Lassen region, the label served as one of Grace Bros.' regional brand offerings distributed throughout Northern California and nearby markets.

Grace Bros. utilized diverse brand labels to supply grocery chains, independent distributors, and regional markets. Lassen Bavarian Beer fit into this strategy by blending traditional Bavarian brewing imagery with regional West Coast geographical appeal. The graphic presentation features prominent Bavarian-style typography and bold thematic accents designed to capture attention on store shelves.

Manufacturing and Variations

The can was manufactured by container suppliers including the American Can Company—carrying the "Keglined" emblem—as well as the National Can Company.

Collectors have documented various production variations across the lifespan of the label:

• Mandatory Text Placement: Variations exist regarding the placement of the fluid ounce statement, appearing across the lower front face on certain examples and integrated into the side mandatory panels on others.
• Manufacturer Marks: Cans display differing manufacturer logos and canning codes depending on the supplying plant.
• Brewery Ownership Transitions: Transition cans exist featuring Grace Bros. side mandatory text paired with lids stamped for Maier Brewing Company, reflecting the shift in licensing and production when Maier acquired brand interests from Grace Bros.

Due to its localized distribution and close connection to Santa Rosa brewing heritage, the Lassen Bavarian flat top remains a celebrated artifact of mid-century California brewing history.
