Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Lebanon Valley Pilsner Flat Top

The Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can is a notable artifact of mid-century Pennsylvania brewing history. While the Lebanon Valley label was originally established by the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, this specific flat top version was brewed and canned by the Eagle Brewing Company located in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania.

Brewery Background

Eagle Brewing Company was a prominent Lehigh Valley regional brewery, best recognized for its flagship Old Dutch beer. As regional brewing dynamics shifted and smaller operations consolidated, Eagle Brewing acquired the rights to produce and distribute several regional Pennsylvania brands. Canning Lebanon Valley Pilsner under the Eagle Brewing name in Catasauqua extended the presence of this classic label across eastern Pennsylvania and neighboring markets.

Design and Manufacturer Details

Manufactured by the American Can Company, the container features clean typography with prominent "Lebanon Valley" lettering across the face, along with standard mandatory text identifying Eagle Brewing Company as the packaging entity.

Known variations exist across different production runs, featuring differences in side panel mandatory phrasing, manufacturer plant codes, and variations in lid stampings. Collectors frequently encounter examples bearing Pennsylvania state tax stamped lids, reflecting the specific state regulatory and taxation requirements of the era.

Breweriana Significance

Among Pennsylvania can collectors, the crossover between the Lebanon Valley brand identity and the Catasauqua production facility makes this can an intriguing focus piece. It serves as tangible documentation of contract brewing and brand acquisitions during the era of independent Pennsylvania regional breweries.
