Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Lebanon Valley Pilsner History

The Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer flat top can is a classic piece of mid-twentieth-century breweriana hailing from the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Operating from its historic facility on North 7th Street following the repeal of Prohibition in 1934 until its closure in 1959, Lebanon Valley served as one of the cornerstone independent breweries of south-central Pennsylvania.

Design and Slogan

The can features the brewery's well-known regional motto, "Pride of the Valley," displayed alongside bold mid-century typography and traditional decorative accents. The graphic presentation was designed to highlight the brewery's local heritage and German-style brewing traditions that defined the region's beer culture for generations.

Variations and Manufacturing

Collectors recognize variations of this flat top can across different production runs. These variations include differences in can manufacturers—such as American Can Company and Crown Cork & Seal—as well as variations bearing state-mandated tax stamps on the lid, particularly the embossed Pennsylvania tax lid. Related cans also connect to contract packaging arrangements involving Eagle Brewing Company in nearby Catasauqua, Pennsylvania.

Legacy

Today, the Lebanon Valley Pilsner flat top remains an enduring artifact of Pennsylvania's post-Prohibition independent brewing industry and a centerpiece collectible for enthusiasts of Keystone State breweriana.
