Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Lebanon Valley Pilsner Flat Top

The Lebanon Valley Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company, located on North 7th Street in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. With brewing heritage in the region dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, the company operated under the Lebanon Valley name through the post-Prohibition era until shutting down operations in 1959.

Design and Branding

The label art features the brewery's trademark slogan, "Pride of the Valley," reflecting its deep roots in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The can't graphic layout represents mid-twentieth-century industrial commercial art, showcasing prominent typography and bold color bands designed for clear visibility in regional taverns and stores.

Manufacturing and Variations

Lebanon Valley Brewing Company utilized major packaging suppliers of the mid-century period, including the American Can Company and Crown Cork & Seal Company. Known variations exist among production runs, showing subtle differences in mandatory brewery text, manufacturer markings, and state tax lid stampings. Due to state alcohol tax regulations of the period, cans distributed locally are often found with Pennsylvania state tax lids.

Historical Significance

During its peak years, the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company maintained a notable presence in central Pennsylvania's brewing trade. Following the brewery's closure in 1959, the historic brewery structure survived and later became the foundation for modern regional preservation efforts. The Lebanon Valley Pilsner flat top remains a celebrated piece of mid-century Pennsylvania brewing history.
