Leinenkugel's Chippewa Pride Beer Crowntainer

Leinenkugel's Chippewa Pride Can

The Leinenkugel's Chippewa Pride Beer Crowntainer is a mid-century container produced for the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Founded in 1867 by Jacob Leinenkugel and John Miller, the brewery built its identity around the pure waters of the Big Eddy Springs along the Chippewa River. The "Chippewa Pride" moniker served as a direct tribute to this local heritage and was one of the brewery's primary brand identities during the post-World War II period.

Manufactured from 1950 to 1954, the can design features a vibrant yellow background accented by bold red and dark typography. The face of the can prominently displays the "Leinenkugel's Chippewa Pride Beer" branding, framing the brewery's regional identity.

Among breweriana collectors, variations of this can are documented. These variations primarily stem from state and federal packaging regulations of the era, including differences in mandatory tax-paid statements (such as non-IRTP designations) and versions bearing a "Strong" alcohol content notice intended for specific regional distribution requirements.

During an era when larger national brewing operations began consolidating market share across the United States, independent Midwestern breweries relied heavily on bold, localized can graphics to maintain shelf presence. The Chippewa Pride Crowntainer remains a significant piece of Upper Midwest brewing history and a classic artifact of Leinenkugel's mid-century packaging lineage.
