Lion Sparkling Ale Quart

Lion Sparkling Ale Quart Can

The Lion Sparkling Ale quart stands as a standout piece of New York brewing history, originating from the Greater New York Brewery in New York City. Produced during the era when the Greater New York Brewery operated the historic Lion Brewery facilities in Manhattan Valley, this quart container represents a short-lived chapter in the city's packaging legacy.

Following corporate consolidations, Greater New York Brewery packaged legacy Lion labels into large-format containers manufactured by the Continental Can Company. Because the facility's operations under the Greater New York corporate banner lasted for only a brief window before closing, very few quart cans bearing the Lion brand were ever filled and distributed.

Among enthusiasts specializing in quart containers and metropolitan New York breweriana, the Lion Sparkling Ale quart is regarded as a major prize. The label showcases the classic heraldic lion insignia paired with bold 'Sparkling Ale' typography. Documented in foundational hobby literature after being preserved in prominent early collections, it remains an elusive artifact from Manhattan's industrial brewing past.
