Lone Star Beer Flat Top Can

The Texas Shield Flat Top

Produced by the Lone Star Brewing Company in San Antonio, Texas, the Lone Star Beer flat top can is one of the most recognized artifacts of Southwestern breweriana. Serving as the primary flagship container during the brewery's major regional expansion, the can features the famous shield emblem emblazoned with the Lone Star of Texas, accented with bold red, white, blue, and metallic gold framing.

During its production run, the San Antonio facility utilized multiple canning suppliers, leading to a variety of subtle collectible differences. Variations can be found in the manufacturer markings along the seam, distinct font color treatments across the "BEER" text, and minor revisions to mandatory regulatory statements. Some versions prominently feature the classic slogan "Texas' Fine Light Beer," while others incorporate alternate promotional phrasing associated with the regional branding campaign.

For breweriana historians and regional specialists, the San Antonio flat top holds particular significance as the cornerstone design that established Lone Star's identity as "The National Beer of Texas". Its bold graphic layout made it a standout on distributor shelves and an enduring classic among Texas can collections.
