Lucky Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Lucky Lager San Francisco Flat Top

Originating from the Lucky Lager Brewing Company in San Francisco, California, this flat top can is a staple of West Coast breweriana history. Originally established as the General Brewing Corporation before officially renaming after its flagship brand, the San Francisco brewery served as the headquarters and cornerstone of what became one of the dominant brewing empires in the western United States.

One of the most notable historical aspects tied to Lucky Lager can designs was the company's pioneering "Age Dated Beer" marketing campaign. Lucky Lager gained industry recognition by dating its containers to assure consumers that the beer had undergone a full lagering process before hitting shelves, making the prominent "Age Dated" banner a classic hallmark of the can's presentation. The label features the brand's recognizable red, white, and gold color scheme, centered around bold typography and the iconic Lucky Lager crest.

For collectors, the San Francisco mandatory text is an essential identifier. While Lucky Lager later expanded operations with plants across the Pacific Northwest and Southern California, cans bearing the San Francisco plant designation connect directly to the company's original Bayview facility on Newhall Street.

Variations of this flat top can are well documented among collectors, featuring differences in mandatory text layout, tax statements, and manufacturer stamps. Depending on the run, examples display markings from major mid-century container manufacturers, including the American Can Company "Keglined" oval and Pacific Can Company "Kan Kegs" trademarks.
