Lucky Lager Beer Flat Top Can

San Francisco's Lucky Lager Can

Produced at the flagship brewery on Newhall Street in San Francisco, California, by the Lucky Lager Brewing Company (originally founded as the General Brewing Corporation), this flat top represents a defining chapter in West Coast brewing history. Lucky Lager grew to become one of the most widely recognized regional labels, promoted through its famous advertising slogan, "It's Lucky When You Live in the West."

The can design centers on the brand's signature bold red "X" insignia paired with red, white, and gold accents. A key feature of Lucky Lager cans was the prominent "Age-Dated Beer" banner, part of a major marketing campaign emphasizing controlled cellar aging and freshness by stamping specific dates on the lids.

Collectors recognize multiple variations of the San Francisco flat top across different production runs. Differences include changes in mandatory corporate text—reflecting the transition from General Brewing Corporation to Lucky Lager Brewing Company—as well as metallic versus non-metallic paint applications. Other variations feature differing can manufacturer stamps, such as American Can Company's "Keglined" mark and Pacific Can Company's "Kan Kegs" panel, along with adjustments to mandatory city listings as production expanded.
