Lucky Lager Premium Beer 16 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Azusa's Lucky Lager Pint Can

The Lucky Lager 16-ounce can from General Brewing in Azusa, California, represents a notable chapter in West Coast brewing and packaging history. Following its founding in Northern California during the post-Prohibition era, General Brewing expanded south to establish a major production hub in Azusa to satisfy surging demand across the region.

Half-Quart Packaging and West Coast Presence

During the mid-20th century, Lucky Lager stood among the best-selling beer brands in the western United States. While standard 12-ounce containers dominated supermarket shelves, breweries introduced 16-ounce "half-quart" cans to provide consumers with a larger single-serving option. Because these pint cans were distributed in smaller quantities than standard-sized containers, they hold special appeal among regional breweriana enthusiasts.

The graphics on the can prominently display the recognizable Lucky Lager branding, featuring bold lettering paired with traditional slogans emphasizing brewery heritage and premium aging. The mandatory brewery text on this release attributes packaging to General Brewing in Azusa, reflecting the era when the company operated multiple production plants throughout the Pacific Coast and Intermountain West.

Production and Known Variations

The Azusa facility served as a key regional anchor for the company before corporate shifts and industry consolidation altered its footprint. Variations of this 16-ounce can exist across different production runs. Collectors have documented differences involving the arrangement and phrasing of mandatory city listings, changes in the placement of the union label, and subtle adjustments in graphic stamping. These differences provide insight into the manufacturing shifts and distribution logistics of General Brewing.
