Maier Select Beer Flat Top Can

Maier Select Flat Top Can History

Produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California, the Maier Select Beer flat top can represents a key piece of West Coast brewing heritage. The brewery traced its origins back to the late nineteenth century on Aliso Street near downtown Los Angeles, operating near the historic site of the famous El Aliso tree. Over several decades, Maier established itself as one of Southern California's foremost regional brewing operations.

Can Design and Attributes

The Maier Select flat top features classic mid-century graphic design characterized by bold, clean lettering and sharp metallic lithography. As a premier offering from the Los Angeles plant alongside regional labels like Brew 102, the Maier Select branding provided strong brand recognition on market shelves throughout California and neighboring western territories.

Variations and Collectibility

Collectors of West Coast breweriana actively seek Maier Select cans due to manufacturing differences across different canning runs. Documented variations include shifts in mandatory statement phrasing, variations in side-panel text formatting, and differences in color tone across the paint layers. These design differences reflect evolving packaging regulations and multiple lithography batch runs during the brewery's active canning operations. Today, the Maier Select flat top remains an enduring artifact from Los Angeles's rich era of independent regional brewing.
