Mann's Export Ale Flat Top Can

Mann's Export Ale Overview

Produced by the Cumberland Brewing Company of Cumberland, Maryland, the Mann's Export Ale Flat Top Can represents a notable artifact from Western Maryland's storied industrial brewing era. Operating out of its facility on North Centre Street, the Cumberland Brewing Company packaged Mann's Export Ale to serve regional consumers across Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the broader Mid-Atlantic territory.

Label Design and Branding

The can features classic mid-century commercial artwork, defined by prominent "Mann's" lettering and traditional export ale motifs. Designed for retail shelves and taverns alike, the packaging highlighted the brewery's craft ale lineage in an era when regional brewing companies relied on bold shelf presence to compete against expanding national outfits.

Variations and Collector Significance

Among East Coast breweriana enthusiasts, cans bearing the Cumberland Brewing Company mandatory imprint remain highly sought after. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, exhibiting subtle adjustments in side-panel mandatory text placement and canning manufacturer marks.

Mann's Export Ale flat tops hold particular historical importance due to the eventual consolidation of Cumberland's brewing scene, as Cumberland Brewing Company was later acquired by neighboring Queen City Brewing Company. As a result, authentic cans from the original North Centre Street brewery stand as enduring testaments to Cumberland's rich regional canning history.
