Martin's Beer of Selah, Washington

Martin's Beer is a notable Pacific Northwest label packaged by the Yakima Valley Brewing Company in Selah, Washington. Introduced during the mid-twentieth century, the brand was closely tied to brewer Fred Martin, whose marketing highlighted brewing roots and formulas dating back to 1886 in Washington State.

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, the container was distributed with eye-catching graphics centered around the Martin's name and accompanied by regional promotional slogans such as "Make Mine Martin's". Collectors recognize variations across different production runs, encompassing low-profile and high-profile profiles, differing mandatory text such as Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) designations, and changes in state-mandated alcohol declarations.

Yakima Valley Brewing operated in central Washington during an era characterized by post-war adjustments, raw ingredient allocations, and fierce competition from expanding national shipping brewers. The introduction of Martin's Beer was part of an assertive effort to establish a dominant regional presence and capture local market share. While the brewery promoted the brand heavily in regional advertising, the canning operation remained relatively short-lived before the company ceased production. Due to the brewery's modest operational scale and strictly regional distribution, surviving cans from this Selah facility remain highly prized artifacts among Pacific Northwest breweriana enthusiasts.
