Matterhorn 12 Oz Tab Top Can

The Matterhorn Beer 12-ounce tab top represents a notable entry from the Burgermeister Brewing operation in San Francisco, California. Produced within the brewery's portfolio alongside its flagship label, Matterhorn featured thematic alpine imagery tailored to stand out on West Coast retail shelves.

Design and Aesthetic Appeal

The label artwork is defined by an illustrative tribute to the Swiss Alps, centered around the snow-capped peak of the Matterhorn. Below the summit, the lithography showcases traditional alpine chalets nestled against a scenic landscape. The bold brand lettering frames the top of the design, creating a striking graphic presentation that made it a memorable piece of regional packaging.

Lithography Variations

Among breweriana enthusiasts, this can is recognized for variations in its print runs. Different canning batches display distinct color shifts, particularly across the shades of the sky background and the contrasting hues used on the chalet houses. These printing differences make the can a popular subject of study for collectors specializing in West Coast packaging history.

Regional Heritage

San Francisco was a vibrant center of brewing activity, and the facility at 10th Street played a major role in supplying beer across California and neighboring states. Matterhorn remains a prized artifact representing the diverse portfolio and graphic experimentation of the Burgermeister facility.
