Maximus Regular Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Maximus Regular Beer Can History

Brand Heritage

The Maximus Regular Beer tab top can was issued by the historic F.X. Matt Brewing Company located in Utica, New York. F.X. Matt, widely recognized for regional mainstays such as Utica Club and later Saranac, developed the Maximus brand with a bold, regal image. While the brewery produced the well-known Maximus Super, the Maximus Regular label served as the standard-strength companion offering within the Maximus line.

Visual Design and Layout

The can's design emphasizes an authoritative, classical presence. The centerpiece is the prominent "MAXIMUS" typography, accompanied by traditional heraldic crest elements and decorative framing. The graphic scheme pairs deep background tones with metallic and contrasting accents, prominently featuring the Utica, New York brewery credit.

Packaging and Known Variations

Among breweriana collectors, the Maximus Regular can is a notable representation of F.X. Matt packaging evolution. Known variations exist across different production runs, reflecting industry transitions in canning materials and graphic standards. These variations include shifts in can metal construction, alterations in mandatory legal text placement along the seam, differences in lid stamping, and the introduction of universal product codes (UPC) on later pressings.
