Meister Brau Premium Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Meister Brau Premium Bock

The Meister Brau Premium Bock 12 oz tab top can is a notable piece of Chicago brewing history, issued by Meister Brau, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois. Originally founded in the late 19th century as the Peter Hand Brewing Company on Chicago's North Side, the firm formally adopted the Meister Brau name in the 1960s after its most popular flagship label.

Historical Context

During the mid-20th century, Meister Brau was a major regional fixture in the Midwest. The North Avenue facility stood as one of the last large independent commercial breweries operating in Chicago before the company's formulas and brand assets were acquired by the Miller Brewing Company in the early 1970s. Cans from this era with the Chicago, Illinois manufacturing label represent the final chapter of the city's independent legacy packaging.

Design and Collector Information

Issued as a seasonal spring release, the Meister Brau Premium Bock can features bold graphic styling and traditional German-American bock motifs. The label prominently showcases the brand's signature typography alongside classic bock goat heraldry.

Among collectors, known variations exist displaying different can manufacturer marks, mandatory statement placements, and subtle metallic finish changes around the seam. It remains a staple acquisition for enthusiasts focused on mid-century seasonal releases and Chicago breweriana.
