Metz Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Walter's Metz Premium Flat Top

The Metz Premium Beer flat top can represents an interesting chapter in regional American brewing history, connecting Nebraska brewing heritage with Colorado industrial production. Originally established as a prominent brand in Omaha, Nebraska, the Metz label was acquired and produced by the Walter Brewing Company of Pueblo, Colorado.

Walter Brewing Company, founded in the late 19th century, was one of the few Colorado breweries to survive state and federal Prohibition. By the post-war era, the Pueblo plant expanded its portfolio by acquiring and contract-brewing recognized regional brands to keep plant capacity high. The Metz Premium Beer can produced in Pueblo proudly carried local mandatory statements reflecting its Colorado manufacturing roots.

The can design showcases the traditional Metz heraldic crown emblem centered above bold brand lettering. The layout often incorporated regional marketing taglines highlighting Colorado's mountain brewing waters. Steel containers for this run were produced by major packaging manufacturers of the era, notably the Continental Can Company.

For collectors of Colorado breweriana, several variations exist across production runs. These variations primarily differ in the phrasing and color of the brewery mandatory text, bottom rim factory markings, and subtle shifts in the decorative border work. Because Walter Brewing Company eventually closed its original Pueblo operation in the 1970s, cans bearing the Walter mandatory line remain historic artifacts from Pueblo's long-standing brewing past.
