Metz Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Omaha's Historic Metz Flat Top

The Metz Premium Beer Flat Top Can represents a classic piece of Midwestern breweriana from the Metz Brewing Company of Omaha, Nebraska. Metz stood as one of the renowned "Big Four" breweries that shaped Omaha's brewing landscape alongside Storz, Krug, and Willow Springs. Tracing its lineage back to German immigrant brothers Philip and Frederick Metz in the 1860s, the company established itself as a regional powerhouse and built a loyal following throughout Nebraska and neighboring Great Plains states.

The graphic presentation of the Metz Premium Beer flat top highlights the brewery's storied heritage, featuring prominent references such as "Since 1864" alongside the Metz brand mark. Cans for the label were produced by major packaging manufacturers of the era, including the American Can Company and Continental Can Company, with factory codes appearing along the seam line.

For breweriana collectors, several variations exist from across the can's manufacturing history. These differences include variations in color blocking, diverse vanity text and slogans, distinct can manufacturer insignia, and subtle changes in the decorative border work enclosing the Metz name. Because Metz was one of the defining commercial breweries of Nebraska before operations ceased in the 1960s, this flat top remains a sought-after staple for regional and historic beer can collections.
