Michelob Light Newark 12 Oz Can

Introduced by Anheuser-Busch to capture the super-premium light beer market, Michelob Light represented an important milestone in modern canned breweriana. While standard domestic light offerings focused primarily on reduced calories, Anheuser-Busch positioned Michelob Light as an upscale alternative, translating the refined visual identity of the flagship Michelob brand onto drawn and ironed can packaging.

Produced at the Anheuser-Busch facility in Newark, New Jersey, this 12-ounce can features the brand's classic ribbon crest and flowing script typography set against a clean background. The Newark canning lines supplied a significant portion of the eastern United States market, making the specific Newark mandatory text an essential mark for regional brewery specialists and national can collectors alike.

Collector interest often centers on the subtle manufacturing and graphic variations that appeared throughout its production history. Notable differences from the Newark facility include variations in background coloration—such as silver and white finishes—as well as adjustments to mandatory brewery listings and the incorporation of retail UPC barcodes. These variations document the evolving packaging standards and graphic updates implemented across Anheuser-Busch operations during the era.
