Miller High Life Beer Flat Top Can

The Champagne of Beers Flat Top

Produced by the Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Miller High Life flat top is a central piece of American breweriana. Miller High Life had long been marketed under the famous moniker "The Champagne of Bottle Beer," making the transition to canned packaging a notable milestone in the brewery's distribution history.

Design and Iconography

The can showcases Miller's classic aesthetic, distinguished by metallic gold detailing, rich red accents, and the iconic "Girl in the Moon" motif. First trademarked in the early 1900s, the Girl in the Moon sits gracefully on a crescent moon holding a glass aloft, serving as one of the most recognized figures in commercial brewing art. The main face prominently displays the stylized Miller script alongside slogans highlighting its effervescent, champagne-inspired heritage.

Collector Notes and Variations

Among breweriana enthusiasts, this can is cataloged with several variations that document shifts in commercial canning regulations and branding:

• Tax Statements: Earlier issues feature the mandatory "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) declaration, whereas post-tax-law releases lack this text.
• Manufacturer Marks: Examples exist displaying different manufacturer stamps and canning panel logos, such as the American Can Company "Keglined" mark.
• Graphic Variations: Subtle differences appear across various production runs, including modifications to the slogan phrasing, alcohol content statements, and background shading.

The Miller High Life flat top remains a celebrated staple among collectors who focus on classic mid-century lithography and the rich industrial history of Milwaukee brewing.
