Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab/Insert Top Can

Milwaukee Brand Premium Overview

The Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer 12-ounce can represents a notable piece of breweriana from the prolific contract canning operations in Hammonton, New Jersey. Operating under the trade alias "Waukee" (Waukee Brewing Company), the Hammonton facility—principally run by Eastern Brewing Corporation—utilized evocative branding to market economical beers to widespread markets across the East Coast and beyond.

Brand Identity and History

By using the "Milwaukee Brand" label, the New Jersey brewery deliberately leveraged the famous reputation of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the historic hub of American brewing. This type of geographic marketing was common among budget label producers of the era, helping regional cans achieve immediate familiarity with consumers on store shelves. Eastern Brewing Corporation was known for its versatile output, frequently altering brewery aliases and trade names to cater to specific distributor networks and export opportunities.

Design and Collectibility

The label design is distinguished by bold industrial typography combined with traditional brewing motifs and heraldic emblems. The primary can face prominently emphasizes the "Milwaukee Brand" banner and "Premium Beer" designation, set against a classic color scheme aimed at high shelf visibility.

Known Variations

Collectors recognize several distinct variations of this can across different production batches. Notably, certain print runs feature multilingual text, including Hebrew or Arabic script along with metric volume equivalents, reflecting the brewery's international export contracts and specialized distribution channels. Other variations show slight shifts in mandatory brewery text formatting, city designation typography, and legal declarations. Because contract cans from Hammonton often changed printing plates across runs, tracking these subtle graphic differences remains a central pursuit for East Coast breweriana enthusiasts.
