Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

New Jersey's "Milwaukee" Brew

The Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer 12 oz zip top can represents a classic chapter in mid-century contract brewing history. The can carries the brewery designation of the Waukee Brewing Company, which served as an operational trade alias for the prolific Eastern Brewing Corporation in Hammonton, New Jersey.

Strategic Branding and Production

Eastern Brewing Corporation was widely recognized throughout the industry for producing extensive lines of budget-friendly beers, private supermarket labels, and specialty contract runs. To capture consumer interest and establish instant credibility on retail shelves, the Hammonton facility frequently utilized geographically evocative naming conventions. Marketing the beer under the "Milwaukee Brand" label allowed the southern New Jersey operation to associate its product with the prestige of Milwaukee, Wisconsin—the historic epicenter of American brewing. Operating under the abbreviated "Waukee" brewing alias reinforced this clever regional illusion.

Label Art and Variations

The container showcases bold commercial typography paired with traditional heraldic brewing motifs. Designed for immediate shelf visibility in discount beverage markets, the graphics emphasize the "Milwaukee" moniker in large lettering across the front panel. Variations of this can exist across different production runs, featuring slight shifts in mandatory text layout, mandatory volume designations, and color saturation on the label.

Breweriana Significance

Among collectors of East Coast breweriana and contract labels, cans bearing the Waukee Brewing Company imprint are appreciated for documenting Eastern Brewing Corporation's vast network of brand names and distribution strategies. The Milwaukee Brand zip top serves as an intriguing artifact of post-war market expansion and regional contract packaging.
