Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Milwaukee Brand Premium Flat Top

The Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer Flat Top Can was produced under the mandatory trade name Waukee Brewing Company in Hammonton, New Jersey. In reality, Waukee was an operating alias used by the Eastern Brewing Corporation, a prolific regional packaging facility known throughout the collector community for its vast array of budget labels and contract canning operations.

Marketing and Geographic Irony

One of the most notable aspects of this can is its deliberate branding strategy. By adopting both the "Waukee" moniker and the prominent "Milwaukee Brand" label, the brewery created an intentional marketing association with Milwaukee, Wisconsin—widely regarded as the historic capital of American brewing—despite the beverage being brewed and filled entirely in South Jersey. This was a common promotional approach utilized by contract breweries of the period to capture regional market share by borrowing the prestige of major brewing hubs.

Can Design and Variations

The container features bold industrial typography paired with traditional mid-century heraldic motifs, finished in rich red, gold, and white lithography. Variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in mandatory text layout, trademark placement, and lithograph color intensity. Because contract packaging runs at the Hammonton plant often shifted specifications between batches, these variations remain of high interest to breweriana specialists focusing on East Coast canning history.
