My Beer Flat Top Can

Walter's My Beer Flat Top Can

Produced during the 1960s by the Walter Brewing Company, this 12-ounce flat top can stands out for its vibrant mid-century graphic design. The layout is structured around four quadrants in alternating red and blue panels, each showcasing whimsical white line-art vignettes of people enjoying beer in everyday situations: a woman serving drinks to a seated companion, someone relaxing in a hammock next to a lawnmower, a person lounging on a patio chair, and a rancher with a drink against a mountain backdrop. Splitting these scenes across the center is a crisp white band featuring the brand name in large block lettering and the catchy rhyming slogan, "MAKE MY BEER YOUR BEER".

My Beer was marketed with an approachable, lighthearted persona that leaned heavily on wordplay and relatable lifestyle imagery. By inviting consumers to make the brand their own, the marketing emphasized beer as a companion to all types of leisure and recreation, from relaxing after yard work to unwinding indoors.

The Walter Brewing Company of Pueblo, Colorado, was responsible for canning this release. Established in 1898 when German immigrant Martin Walter acquired an existing local facility, Walter Brewing grew into one of the most prominent regional brewing operations between Denver and the southern border. The company survived statewide prohibition and national repeal, rebounding to supply dozens of proprietary labels across multiple states. Despite decades of local popularity and substantial distribution throughout the Rocky Mountain region, mounting competition from large national shipping breweries led to declining output, and the Pueblo plant finally shut its doors in 1975.

Among breweriana collectors, this flat top is widely appreciated for its quintessential 1960s illustrative styling and clever naming concept. Its engaging cartoon panels and regional Colorado heritage make it an attractive display piece representing the final golden era of steel flat top can production.
