My Beer Flat Top Can

Omaha's Mid-Century Graphic Can

Produced in Omaha, Nebraska, the My Beer flat top is a notable piece of Midwestern breweriana tied to the historic Metz Brewing Company. Marketed under the brand name "My", the can is recognized by collectors for its clever wordplay and memorable promotional slogan: "MAKE MY BEER YOUR BEER".

Design and Visual Elements

The can features distinctive illustrative panel artwork depicting outdoor leisure sports, most notably a fisherman. This sporting imagery catered to outdoorsmen and working-class consumers across the Midwest and Great Plains. Paired with bold typography and a striking mid-century layout, the graphic design stands out among regional packaging of its era.

Regional Heritage and Production

The brand originated in Omaha under Metz before production of the label was also carried out by the Walter Brewing Company in Pueblo, Colorado. Label variations exist across production runs, showing subtle differences in mandatory brewery text, layout alignments, and plant markings between the Omaha and Colorado versions.

Collector Significance

Because regional Midwest cans from this period experienced high attrition, surviving examples remain sought after at breweriana auctions and collector conventions. Its blend of illustrative artwork and catchy naming makes My Beer a classic fixture of Nebraska's brewing heritage.
