Narragansett Beer Pint Can

New England's Classic Pint Can

The Narragansett Beer Pint Can represents one of the most recognizable pieces of New England breweriana. Produced for the Narragansett Brewing Company in Cranston, Rhode Island, this 16-ounce container showcases the enduring branding of a regional powerhouse that once supplied the vast majority of beer consumed across the northeast.

Design and Brewery Heritage

The pint can prominently displays Narragansett's classic typography, frequently accompanied by the brand's legendary marketing catchphrase, "Hi-Neighbor! Have a 'Gansett!" Established in Cranston in 1890, Narragansett was an early adopter of canned beer packaging, offering its flagship brew in larger 16-ounce pint sizes to accommodate consumer demand.

Cranston-labeled pint cans feature lithographed branding and regional brewery disclosures. Over the course of the brewery's operations, several variations were manufactured, exhibiting subtle differences in can manufacturer marks, mandatory labeling text, and trim detailing.

Pop Culture and Collector Legacy

Narragansett's vintage can designs hold a permanent place in American pop culture thanks to Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic Jaws, where the grizzled shark hunter Quint memorably crushes a Narragansett can aboard the Orca.

For collectors of regional breweriana, the 16-ounce pint can from the Cranston facility remains a celebrated centerpiece of Rhode Island's industrial and commercial heritage.
