Narragansett Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

New England Pop Culture Tab Top

Originating from the Narragansett Brewing Company in Cranston, Rhode Island, this 12-ounce tab top represents a defining era of East Coast brewing history. Narragansett stood as a major regional powerhouse across New England, prominently remembered as the long-running sponsor of the Boston Red Sox and for its classic slogan, "Hi, Neighbor! Have a 'Gansett!"

This design earned lasting pop culture fame through Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster Jaws. In an iconic scene aboard the Orca, seasoned shark hunter Captain Sam Quint (played by Robert Shaw) downs and crushes a 12-ounce Narragansett tab top can in a single hand to intimidate oceanographer Matt Hooper. Production lore notes that the can was chosen after crew members noticed Martha's Vineyard fishermen drinking Narragansett on local docks, leading Spielberg to include it for authentic maritime flavor.

For breweriana collectors, several variations exist among Cranston-labeled issues. Known variations display differences in background paint finishes, metallic sheen, rim profiles, and mandatory text adjustments resulting from the brewery's transitions under the Falstaff Brewing Corporation. Because of its blend of Hollywood fame and regional heritage, this can remains a coveted centerpiece for both beer can collectors and cinema memorabilia enthusiasts.
