Narragansett Lager Beer 16 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Cranston's Iconic Half-Quart Can

Produced at the historic Narragansett Brewing Company plant in Cranston, Rhode Island, this 16-ounce half-quart can represents an important era in New England brewing history. Narragansett grew into one of the Northeast's dominant regional breweries, cementing its status in American pop culture through its famous slogan, "Hi, Neighbor! Have a 'Gansett!" as well as long-running broadcast sponsorships of the Boston Red Sox.

The can features the brewery's traditional red, white, and gold livery, centered around the recognizable flowing Narragansett script and heraldic crest. The 16-ounce "tall boy" or half-quart format was a staple for the brewery, providing a larger serving that became especially popular across New England taverns and sporting events.

Narragansett cans from this era also earned enduring cultural recognition thanks to their appearance in the 1975 blockbuster film Jaws, where Captain Quint famously crushes a can of 'Gansett to intimidate Hooper.

Among breweriana collectors, variations of this can exist across different production runs, exhibiting subtle distinctions in mandatory regulatory text, brewery address markings, metallic finishes, and canning manufacturer codes. Following the eventual closure of the Cranston facility, original cans bearing the Cranston city mandatory remain cornerstone pieces for regional and national breweriana collections.
