National Bohemian Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can

National Bohemian Bock Tab Top

The National Bohemian Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can represents an important chapter in Mid-Atlantic brewing history, originating from the National Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. While National Bohemian—popularly known as "Natty Boh"—was primarily recognized for its flagship pale lager, the brewery continued the German-American brewing tradition of releasing seasonal bock beer. Because bock was packaged in much smaller volumes for limited seasonal runs, these cans saw significantly lower distribution numbers than year-round releases.

The can's graphic design incorporates traditional bock iconography, featuring the classic goat motif alongside prominent National Bohemian branding and contrasting dark tones. For collectors, this can holds special interest due to notable manufacturing variations that appeared across different production runs. These variations include differences in brewery location text—reflecting the era when National Brewing expanded operations and added secondary facilities outside of Baltimore—as well as slight modifications in mandatory text phrasing and lid construction.

As an iconic regional label deeply tied to Baltimore and Chesapeake culture, this seasonal bock can remains a celebrated piece of breweriana that documents the evolution of mid-century American metal packaging.
