National Bohemian Bock Flat Top Can

Orlando National Bohemian Bock

The National Bohemian Bock flat top can hailing from Orlando, Florida, represents a fascinating chapter in the mid-century expansion of The National Brewing Company. Originally rooted in Baltimore, Maryland, the brewer expanded into the southern market after acquiring the Marlin Brewing Company plant in Orlando. This brief operational era in Central Florida makes cans bearing the Orlando mandatory prized additions for regional and specialized breweriana collectors.

Design and Iconography

Adorned with classic seasonal motifs, the can features the traditional goat emblem long associated with bock beers alongside the company's iconic branding elements. The layout pairs mid-century typography with rich contrasting colors tailored for seasonal spring distribution. Unlike the company's widely produced pale lagers, bock offerings were canned in substantially smaller volumes, adding to their standing among enthusiasts.

Variations and Manufacturing

Because the brewery worked with different container suppliers during its Florida run, several variations of this can exist. These differences can be seen in the canning manufacturer marks, bottom lid stamps, and the arrangement of mandatory text. The specific Orlando city listing distinguishes these cans from both the prevalent Baltimore issues and the later Miami releases.

Regional Collecting Significance

Florida breweriana collectors particularly value the Orlando imprint due to the short lifespan of the plant. Following the acquisition of another production facility in Miami, National Brewing phased out operations at the Orlando site, ensuring that cans specifically stamped with the Orlando mandatory remain enduring historical artifacts of Florida's mid-century brewing history.
