National Bohemian Light Beer 12 Oz Bank Can

National Bohemian Coin Bank Can

The National Bohemian Light Beer 12 Oz Bank Can represents a notable chapter in the promotional history of The National Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Manufactured specifically as a coin bank featuring a factory-punched coin slot, this piece served as a dedicated promotional keepsake rather than a standard beverage package.

The lithography prominently displays the brand's iconic mascot, Mr. Boh—the cheerful, one-eyed character with a distinct handlebar mustache—alongside the famous regional slogan, "From the Land of Pleasant Living". This phrase became deeply embedded in Chesapeake Bay heritage, closely associating the brewery with Mid-Atlantic leisure, local seafood traditions, and Charm City culture.

During the brewery's height under president Jerold Hoffberger, who also owned the Baltimore Orioles, The National Brewing Company distributed a wide array of branded novelty merchandise to patrons and sports fans across Maryland. Factory-produced bank cans were issued as promotional souvenirs and retail premiums, allowing enthusiasts to save spare change while displaying brewery insignia.

For collectors of Mid-Atlantic breweriana, several variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in mandatory brewery markings, rim geometry, and color separations. Because these cans were assembled exclusively for coin savings rather than filled with liquid, they hold a distinct place in collections dedicated to historic Baltimore brewing history.
