National Bohemian Light Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Miami National Bohemian Zip Top

The National Bohemian Light Beer 12-ounce zip top can represents a notable chapter in the geographic expansion of the National Brewing Company beyond its historical Baltimore, Maryland roots. While celebrated primarily as a Mid-Atlantic staple—affectionately nicknamed "Natty Boh"—the brand expanded southern production after acquiring the former Regal Brewing facility in Miami, Florida.

Design and Iconography

The can features the classic National Bohemian visual identity, highlighted by the beloved mascot, Mr. Boh. Characterized by his winking eye and handlebar mustache, Mr. Boh remains an iconic fixture in American breweriana. The label incorporates bold red, white, and metallic accents along with the traditional "National Bohemian Light Beer" typography. The mandatory text panel specifically identifies the National Brewing Company's Miami, Florida plant, making this container a notable piece for regional Florida breweriana enthusiasts.

Collector Notes and Variations

During this era of multi-plant operations, National Bohemian packaging was distributed across several regional markets. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, featuring shifts in mandatory text layouts—such as Florida-only designations versus multi-city listings including Baltimore and Detroit—as well as slight differences in rim banding and manufacturer markings. For collectors of southern breweriana and legacy American lager packaging, this can illustrates the nationwide footprint of a famous regional brewing label.
