National Bohemian Light Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Baltimore's Classic Zip Top Can

The National Bohemian Light Beer 12 oz zip top can represents an iconic piece of mid-Atlantic brewing history from The National Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Widely recognized by its regional moniker "Natty Boh," this package prominently showcases the beloved one-eyed, handlebar-mustachioed mascot, Mr. Boh, who became an enduring cultural emblem throughout Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay area.

During the era when The National Brewing Company expanded under company president Jerold Hoffberger, National Bohemian dominated the Baltimore marketplace. Hoffberger, who also owned the Baltimore Orioles, turned the brand into a fixture at Memorial Stadium, cementing its status as an indelible part of local sports tradition. Cans from this era frequently tied into the brewery's broader regional marketing efforts, including the famous promotional campaign celebrating the Chesapeake as the "Land of Pleasant Living".

For breweriana collectors, the graphic presentation of the National Bohemian Light Beer can stands out with its bold red, white, and gold color scheme. The front display panel centers on the classic National Bohemian script alongside Mr. Boh's grinning portrait. Mandatory text identifies The National Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland, though collectors also track variations that arose as the company expanded operations to additional regional production facilities. Known variations across production runs include different brewery location listings, varied mandatory state tax statements, and slight shifts in font sizing and layout.

As a defining artifact of Baltimore's industrial past, this can remains a cornerstone item for collectors focused on Maryland brewing heritage and classic advertising mascots.
