National Bohemian Light Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Baltimore's Famous Natty Boh Can

The National Bohemian Light Beer 12 oz zip top can represents an iconic piece of mid-Atlantic brewing history from The National Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Known affectionately to generations of locals as "Natty Boh," the brand became deeply intertwined with Maryland culture through its Chesapeake Bay heritage and long-standing association with Baltimore sports.

During the era of this can's distribution, National Brewing Company was under the leadership of Jerold Hoffberger, who also served as the owner of the Baltimore Orioles. This connection solidified the brew as a fixture at Memorial Stadium, cementing its status as an enduring emblem of local pride. The can design prominently features the company mascot, Mr. Boh—the recognizable, one-eyed figure sporting a handlebar mustache—alongside references to the company's celebrated regional slogan, "From the Land of Pleasant Living."

For breweriana collectors, this can offers a quintessential snapshot of mid-twentieth-century National Brewing packaging. As the brewery expanded beyond its flagship facility at O'Donnell and Conkling streets in Baltimore's Brewers Hill neighborhood, it acquired additional facilities in other states. Consequently, collectors recognize variations of this can that feature alternate city and plant mandatory listings—such as Detroit, Michigan and Miami, Florida alongside the original Baltimore home office—as well as slight shifts in text layout, rim coatings, and seam configurations.

With its bold graphic presentation, historic regional branding, and deep ties to Baltimore sports and culture, this can is a prized centerpiece for displays dedicated to classic American regional brewers.
