National Bohemian Light Beer Pint Can

Baltimore's Classic Boh Pint

The National Bohemian Light Beer pint can is a celebrated piece of mid-Atlantic brewing history, produced by The National Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Known regionally as "Natty Boh," the brand became synonymous with Chesapeake Bay culture, seafood gatherings, and neighborhood taverns throughout Baltimore's historic Brewers Hill.

The can design prominently features Mr. Boh, the smiling company mascot recognized for his bold handlebar mustache, single open eye, and winking expression. Accompanying the graphic is the company's famous regional slogan, "From the Land of Pleasant Living," celebrating the coastal Chesapeake lifestyle.

During the height of this brand's regional popularity, The National Brewing Company was headed by Jerold Hoffberger, who also owned Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles. This relationship made National Bohemian the defining beverage of Baltimore sports, served widely to fans at Memorial Stadium during the franchise's championship eras. The sixteen-ounce pint format was a frequent sight among stadium vendors and local bar patrons seeking a larger pour.

As National Brewing expanded distribution and added packaging facilities outside of its primary Baltimore plant at O'Donnell and Conkling streets, several packaging variations emerged. Collectors document variations differing in brewery city listings, mandatory text placement, and copyright markings. These differences make the pint container a popular focus among regional breweriana collectors seeking artifacts from prominent East Coast brewing companies.
