National Bohemian Light Beer Pint Can

Baltimore's Classic Boh Pint

The National Bohemian Light Beer pint can is an iconic artifact of mid-Atlantic brewing heritage, issued by The National Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Known affectionately across the Chesapeake region as "Natty Boh," the brand established deep cultural roots in Maryland, serving as a staple of local sporting events, seafood feasts, and neighborhood gatherings.

The front design showcases the recognizable visage of Mr. Boh, the smiling company mascot characterized by his bold handlebar mustache, single open eye, and cheerful wink. Complementing the graphic is the company's famous regional catchphrase, "From the Land of Pleasant Living," a nod to the coastal lifestyle of the Chesapeake Bay area.

During the era when these 16-ounce pint cans circulated widely, The National Brewing Company was led by Jerold Hoffberger, who concurrently owned the Baltimore Orioles. This relationship helped make National Bohemian the quintessential beer of Baltimore, prominently served at Memorial Stadium throughout championship baseball seasons. The larger pint format was especially popular among stadium vendors and local taverns catering to patrons across Baltimore's historic Brewers Hill neighborhood.

For breweriana enthusiasts, the pint can holds considerable appeal due to its bold graphics and regional heritage. As National Brewing expanded beyond its flagship plant at O'Donnell and Conkling streets, production extended to other facilities, leading to notable variations in mandatory text layout, brewery city listings, and copyright markings. These variations make the pint can an engaging subject for regional can collectors and specialists focused on packaging from prominent East Coast brewers.
